Photographic Jargon

This list will expand as I produce more videos, but here are a few to get you started!

Exposure - a term that comes from the idea that the film or sensor in a camera is 'exposed' by the action of the camera.

Aperture - The variable opening in a lens that allows control over the light that enters the camera. Find out more here

Shutter - the mechanical opening in a camera that allows light to fall on the sensor or film. The shutter remains open for a pre determined amount of time, called the shutter speed.

Shutter Speed - The amount of time that the shutter remains open. Usually expressed as a fraction of a second (eg: 1/200s).

F-stop -
